Putnam Dancers Take 2nd Place In National Dance Competition

BREWSTER, N.Y. -- Dancers from the Seven Star School performance team recently competed at the American Dance Awards National Dance Competition in New York City.

"We had such a great experience at nationals this year," said Jaclyn Yarusso, performance team co-director. "The talent was incredible and we loved seeing routines from studios located around the world. Our dancers are ready to be come back to the studio and work even harder now.  We are so proud of everyone's efforts and hard work."

The team participated in the dance-off finals in both the 12 and under and 13 and over divisions. They were selected as nominees for the competition's top routines. 

Director Nicole Aravena placed as a finalist for top choreographer in the 12 and under category for a a tap routine titled "Coffee In a Cardboard Cup." 

Contemporary group Undertow received top honors and second place nationally in the small group category. 

Dancers Macey Hollander (South Salem), Sarah Shectman (Mahopac), Jillian McNamara (Brewster), Amanda Ostuni (Brewster), Sofia Ruggeiro (Brewster) and Kiersten Sanok (Brewster) performed a solo routine, took judged classes and learned an opening number routine as Dancer of the Year contestants.
