Hawk Watching, Field Trips Among October Events At Bedford Audubon Society

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Bedford Audubon invites the public to attend a rousing selection of nature walks, field trips, workshops, and special events this October.

Here is a rundown of events:

Volunteer: Leon Levy Native Garden. Join gardening enthusiasts in the Leon Levy Native Garden at Bylane Farm every Monday morning through the gardening season. For details, call Janelle at 914-232-1999. Science in Action: Chestnut Ridge Hawkwatch. The fall Hawkwatch has started at the Arthur Butler Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road in Bedford Hills every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Through Monday, Dec. 1. Lecture: The Fog with Kathleen Weathers at the Katonah Village Library. The aptly named Weathers from the Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies, a world-renowned expert in her field, will speak on how fog interacts with the air, land, and water, on mountains and coasts. Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. (bring a reusable mug to help us reduce ecological footprints) Lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Special Field Trip: Cape May Migration Bonanza! Be part of a perennial favorite—our annual Columbus Weekend trip to Cape May. Tait Johansson, will maximize your experience by leading you to a variety of habitats in search of migrating raptors, as well as other migratory and resident passerines and shorebirds. Join Bedford Audubon’s Naturalist Tait Johansson for a bird walk around the historic grounds, and then stay for the Farmers Market, which starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bird Seed Sale Order Due Date: Make sure you have your order placed by the close of business on Tuesday, Oct. 21, to ensure your entire order is fulfilled. Nature Walk: Explore Hunt-Parker with Bedford Audubon Naturalist Tait Johansson. Join us for a pre-work nature walk in the fields and woods around Bylane. Family-friendly. Meet at Bylane. Thursday, Oct. 23, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Register with Tait Johansson at tjohansson@bedfordaudubon.org or 914-232-1999.
