On Tuesday, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. parents and children will be wrapping presents for the students at the Pleasantville Cottage School.

The school is a not-for-profit therapeutic residential treatment center for abandoned and neglected children. The goal of the event Tuesday is to help put a smile on the faces of the 320 kids who reside at the school.

Here's how to participate:

  • Buy some gifts, wrapping paper and tape and come to Wampus on Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • If you cannot attend, drop off your unwrapped gifts at Wampus before the event.
  • All the kids in attendance will wrap the gifts together and give them to Sandi Rosenthal, the director of Volunteer Services for PCS.

The theme for this year is "Clothing and home goods." There are 2 to 3 kids (mainly 13-17 year old) per room at PCS, and they are limited as to what clothing, bedding, winter gear and toiletries they have. They only have the basics...a flimsy pillow, white sheets and a very thin blanket. We are trying to give these needy youngsters items to make their space feel a little more personal and fun. Ideas include:

  • Hoodies for either gender (adult sizes L - XXL)
  • Gloves, hats, scarves & fun socks
  • Comforter sets, blankets, & sheets (all beds are twin size)
  • Pajamas and slippers (adult sizes L - XXL)
  • Stuffed animals
  • Jewelry (hoop or stud earrings, bangle bracelets)
  • Art supplies (especially pads & colored pencils)
  • Nail polish, mascara, lip gloss and eye shadow for girls
  • Body lotion and body mist for girls
  • Any Axe product for guys (no aerosol cans)
  • Board games, basketballs and footballs
  • Decorative wall posters, peel and stick wall decals
  • Journals or diaries
  • Gift Cards to Target, GameStop, etc.

The Cottage School asks donors to not give any gifts that include glass and that they remember that the kids at the Cottage School are mainly teens from the inner city.
