WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Robison and BrightHome Energy Solutions, part of the Robison family of companies, are participating in the Bedford2020 Environment Summit and Solar Action Day on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The event will be held at Fox Lane High School in Bedford from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Bedford 2020 is a non-profit organization leading a grass roots effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent by the year 2020 in the town of Bedford, NY.
Midge Iorio, the executive director of Bedford 2020, said the summit will include workshops, speakers and an environment expo that offers products and services."Our goal is to have our community collaborate with the leaders in the environment world and leave with concrete actions they can use to help the environment,'' Iorio said.
Bedford 2020 is reducing emissions and making a difference through community programs that span five action areas, including: Energy, Food & Agriculture, Transportation, Waste & Recycling, and Water & Land Use. Bedford 2020 programs are led by the work of nine Task Forces staffed with over 90 community volunteers.
Workshops for the summit will address home solarization, what's happening in New York with solar energy, the nuts and bolts of solar installations, home energy efficiency, how to support the local food economy, waste and recycling, water and land use and transportation.
Keynote speakers will be Richard Kaufman, New York's Chief of Energy and Finance; Amory B. Lovins, a consultant physicist and innovator in energy and its links with resources, security, development, and environment; and Andrew Revkin, the Senior Fellow for Environmental Understanding at Pace University and environmental writer for The New York Times.
“We all know what the problems are with high energy cost. Robison, along with Bedford 2020, want to be a part of the solution,'' said David Singer, President of Robison. "This event is a great showcase of the solutions that are out there available for home owners to reduce energy use and help the environment.”
Registration fees range from $10-$25. For complete information on the summit and to register, click here .
BrightHome helps homeowners reduce the amount of energy required to run their home. "BrightHome has been one of the main contractors to help homes become more efficient,'' Iorio said. "Since 2009 the energy reduction program has expanded to 13 communities in Northern Westchester, and 600 people have up upgraded their homes. About 25 percent of those are in Bedford."
The event will also be the kick off to their Solarize Bedford/Mt. Kisco. It is under the umbrella of Solarize Westchester, a town by town wide effort to increased adoption of small-scale solar electricity systems by offering lower installation costs due to economies of scale.
