BEDFORD, N.Y. – For the first time, Bedford Audubon is conducting a spring bird seed sale fundraiser to support conservation research, environmental education, and habitat protection efforts in the community.
Members of the public are invited to place orders to support birds and local conservation efforts at the same time.
These are the seed offered for sale:
- Black oil sunflower seeds ($52/50lb or $26/25lb) give birds the high energy they need after migration and through the breeding and nesting season, and attract a wide variety of birds;
- Sunflower chips ($85/40lb) provide the same high-energy food, but without shells—eliminating the mess from under feeders;
- Economy ($30/50lb) and select ($35/40lb or $13/15lb) mixes are great for ground and platform feeding, and also attract a diversity of birds to your landscape;
- Thistle ($25/15lb) attracts the striking black and yellow American Goldfinch, but requires a specialized feeder.
If you have problems with squirrels, safflower ($25/15 lb) may be the perfect seed for you. For woodpeckers and nuthatches, there are whole peanuts ($30/15 lb) and suet cakes ($3). Bedford Audubon is also offering an Audubon nest builder — a wood and wire dispenser filled with natural nest lining material ($17), and a dish-style Audubon hummingbird feeder ($16) with a built-in ant moat.
Orders must be placed by close of business on Tuesday, March 31. Anyone placing an order may pick up their purchases between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Town of Bedford Office Campus at 425 Cherry St. on Saturday, April 11. Home delivery is available for a small additional fee to addresses in Bedford, Katonah, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers, and Yorktown.
Order forms are available at www.facebook.com/BedfordAudubonSociety. Bedford Audubon accepts checks, Visa, and MasterCard and can accept orders over the phone at 914-232-1999.
