New Air Quality Alert For Westchester, Rockland With More Extreme Heat

For the second straight day of a three-day stretch in which the high temperature is expected to hit 90 degrees, an Air Quality Alert is in effect for Westchester and Rockland.

The time frame for the alert once again is 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Although heat index values will fall short of heat advisory criteria on Monday, anyone with outdoor plans should take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, the National Weather Service said.

An air quality action day means that ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards, the National Weather Service said. With the increasing heat and humidity, low-level ozone increases, making for more air pollution.

Heat will impact the area through Tuesday with real-feel temperatures reaching dangerous levels for several hours during the afternoons Monday and Tuesday, according to AccuWeather.com.

Monday's high could reach 95 degrees with sunny skies.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high around 90, and a chance of showers and thunderstorms as a cold front moves through, making for a more comfortable day Wednesday.

Wednesday will be partly sunny with a high in the mid to upper 70s.
