New Yorkers Give Cuomo Thumbs Down For Performance In Siena College Poll

New Yorkers gave Gov. Andrew Cuomo poor performance ratings and presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton extended her lead over Donald Trump in a poll released Thursday by Siena College.

Fifty-nine percent felt negative toward Cuomo’s job performance, just slightly better than last summer when 60 percent gave the governor a negative rating.

Cuomo fared even worse in some other ratings. Some of the key findings:

  • Making New York more business friendly: 53% negative, 41% positive
  • Handling of the recent legislative session: 58% negative, 29% positive
  • Balancing needs of upstate and downstate: 65% negative, 26% positive
  • Reducing corruption in state government: 71% negative, 23% positive
  • Improving the quality of education in New York: 69% negative, 27% positive

Clinton leads 54-31 percent in New York over Trump, the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee. Clinton held a 52-31 advantage in May. Independent voters prefer Clinton by a 43-35 margin.

New Yorkers gave Clinton a positive 50-47 edge in favorability, while 28 percent have a favorable rating of Trump, a New York City real estate developer.
