A 51-year-old woman has been charged after police say she was found to be in possession of crack cocaine during a traffic stop.
Officers with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department allegedly observed the driver of a 2002 Oldsmobile commit a violation on Danbury Road in the Town of Southeast on Saturday, Nov. 2 around 5:30 p.m.
A traffic stop was initiated, and police allegedly observed several pieces of drug paraphernalia on the floor of the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that one of the passengers, identified as Katherine Shanahan, 51, of Brewster, was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine, according to police.
The driver of the vehicle was issued multiple traffic summonses and released, police say.
Shanahan was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court.
