ARMONK, N.Y. -- Police went bear hunting recently after receiving reports that several of the woodland beasts had been seen meandering around town.

North Castle officers were called to Byram Lake Road early Friday, June 10, and to Byram Ridge Road later the same day, but the wandering bruins were long gone by the time they got there.

On Saturday, June 11, police got a call from Stony Brook Place by a homeowner who had spotted a bear in her backyard.

The bear had vanished before they arrived, but the officers went door to door to alert the woman’s neighbors.

Other items on the police blotter included the following:

  • Friday, June 10: A person from North Greenwich Road called police to ask that they escort an “unwanted party” from his building. The unnamed party and the caller had had a verbal disagreement. Police spoke to both sides of the dispute, and the person left.
  • In another matter, police were called to MacDonald Avenue to investigate a suspicious package between the fairgrounds and a bus garage. Police determined that the “package” belonged to a high school student and that it contained clothing and school materials.
  • Sunday, June 12: Police were called to free a citizen who had gotten locked inside an ATM vestibule on Main Street.
  • Monday, June 13: Police were called to Business Park Drive by someone who reported they had thwarted an attempt to steal items from their car. The person was working out at the Equinox fitness club and had gone outside to find the unknown suspect riffling through their stuff. The suspect, upon being confronted by the car’s owner, fled the scene in a white 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier, police said.
