Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., state police conducted the detail in Yonkers, which led to the issuance of 60 tickets and an alleged DWI and weapons arrest.
After being stopped for failing to wear a seatbelt, 21-year-old Mount Vernon resident Joseph Vartuli was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Police said his blood alcohol content was .12 percent. He has since been arraigned on the charges in Yonkers Court and released.
In total, there were 31 motorists cited for speeding, 15 stopped for vehicle and traffic law violations, three drivers that failed to follow the “move over law,” five cited for not wearing their seatbelt and five more who were ticketed for using a cell phone while driving.
