Long Island Woman Arrested Under Leandra's Law For Drunk Driving With Infant In Car, Police Say

A Long Island woman faces multiple charges under Leandra's Law for reportedly driving drunk with a toddler in the car, according to Nassau County Police.

The woman of Melville was arrested in Merrick on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 6:41 p.m. after officers responded to the vicinity of Merrick Road and Clubhouse Road for a reported unresponsive female in the driver’s seat of her 2016 Nissan Altima, said police.

Stephanie Quinones, 29, was reportedly observed by officers having slurred speech, glassy bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, according to Nassau County Police.

Her 23-month-old female child was in the car at the time, police said.

Quinones was taken into custody and the child was released to a family member, according to police.

She is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal possession of a controlled substance said police.

Quinones will be arraigned when medically practical, according to police.
