Readington Township Police responded to the Shoppes at the Farm on a report of a suspicious male in the parking lot shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

Upon arrival, officers found a man slumped over the steering wheel in his vehicle, authorities said.

Officers made contact with the man, identified as Craig Howell, 32, of Bedminster, and detected a strong alcoholic odor, authorities said.

Howell was subsequently asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which police say he did not pass.

Howell was arrested and issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, consent to take samples of breath and refusal to submit to a chemical test, authorities said.
