The incident began around 8:44 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, when Danbury Police were responding to a call of an assault at 38 Old Ridgebury Road, said Danbury Police Lt. Mark Williams.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a man in his 30s at a recreational area adjacent to Old Ridgebury and Reserve Road, Williams said.

The man, who has not been identified, had a large knife in each hand. When officers encountered the man he refused all orders to stop and drop the weapons, police said.

"At some point during the encounter, the male was shot by a Danbury Police Officer," Williams said. "He was treated at the scene and then transported by ambulance to the hospital."

The man's current condition is unknown, but he was conscious and speaking at the incident scene, Williams said.

 No police officers were injured.

Per state and Danbury Police Department policy, the investigation is being conducted by the state police and is being overseen by the Danbury State’s Attorney office.
