The incident happened around 10:20 a.m. Friday, April 11, in Boca Raton, and created a large plume of smoke visible for miles.
The victims were all those on board the Cessna 310, Boca Raton Fire Rescue said. Neither their ages nor identities have been announced as of early Friday afternoon.
One person on the ground was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The aircraft apparently had some mechanical issues, Boca Raton Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Michael LaSalle told reporters at the scene.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct the investigation of the crash with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The roadway where the plane came down, North Military Trail near Butts Road, remains closed, along with the I-95 overpass in both directions at Glades Road, the Boca Raton Police Services Department said.
The plane was bound for Tallahassee International Airport, the FAA said.
