A 59-year-old Westchester man has been sentenced after being found guilty of holding a woman against her will, assaulting her and attempting to rape her.

Thomas Jessamy of Mount Vernon has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison after he was found guilty by a jury of attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment and two counts of assault for a four-hour incident in 2017 when he terrorized a woman in his Mount Vernon home.

Between 5:30 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. on June 21, 2017, Jessamy committed a series of crimes against his victim in his South Tenth Avenue home. Jessamy invited his victim to his apartment, where he assaulted her, demanded she remove her clothes, and attempted to rape her. He repeated these actions constantly for several hours as she protested.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., said that the woman was able to call police in her cell phone twice in the bathroom of the apartment, but was unable to provide an address.

When Jessamy let her go at approximately 10 p.m., she walked to a nearby church and called police for the third time. From there, she was taken to the Westchester County Medical Center, where she was treated for head trauma, a fractured rib, and other injuries.

Scarpino said that, “due to the emotional and challenging nature of this type of violent crime, it is not always easy to prosecute, but through the dedication and hard work of ADA Michelle Lopez, Chief of our Sex Crimes Unit, and her colleagues, we were able to get justice for the victim of this heinous crime and reestablish her faith in the system.”
