Storms struck the area early on Wednesday, July 31, leaving utility crews scrambling to restore power to several neighborhoods.

As of 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, Con Edison was reporting 17 outages, that left a total of 493 customers without power.

Croton-on-Hudson was hit the hardest, with 484 Con Ed customers in dark. Other outages were reported in Cortlandt, Eastchester, New Castle, Pelham, and Yonkers.

Strong wind gusts of between 60 and 70 miles per hour could bring down trees and tree limbs, leading to power outages, and at least a half-inch of rain is expected during the day.

The storms are expected to continue throughout the night.
