Monroe College Auditions Anthem Performers

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – So you think you can sing the National Anthem with the best of them?

The Monroe College Mustangs are inviting all “Star Spangled Banner” performers who would like to earn the opportunity to sing the anthem at a home Mustangs basketball game this winter season to an open audition on Oct. 22 at the new Monroe Athletic Complex (MAC).

The audition, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to individual singers, school and church choruses and instrumentalists -- amateurs, professionals, hobbyists, children, teens, adults, Monroe College students, faculty, and staff – to showcase their talent.

Participants will be given one opportunity to audition in front of a panel of judges in the MAC’s Olympic Room reception hall that overlooks the 45,000 square-foot arena.

Winners will sing before a home game in the 1,200 seat MAC, which is home to the defending NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Champions and the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball National Tournament Third-Place team. There will be more than 30 opportunities before Monroe games, invitational tournaments games, regional tournament games, high school games, and other events taking place at the MAC through the middle of March 2012.It is requested that vocalists sing unaccompanied. Instrumentalists are limited to one self-contained, portable instrument. It is not necessary to pre-register for the audition.The decision of the judges is final and winners will be announced on the Monroe Mustangs web site at www.monroecollegemustangs.com on Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
