Larchmont Kids Raise Money for Pediatric Cancer

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The temperature dipped to 39 degrees on Saturday afternoon, but it was perfect for Larchmont residents Evan and Joshua Greenberg, who were selling hot cocoa at All Good Things in Scarsdale to raise money for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF). 

Cancer survivor and PCF Executive Director Nancy Joselson is amazed at Evan and his family’s work. 

“I love Evan, Joshua and their wonderful and amazing parents,” Joselson said. “Their life is all about giving back and we can’t thank them enough. They’re helping children’s lives.”

Joselson met Elisa Greenberg when both were class parents at their children’s nursery school. When Evan was a 5 ½ years old in kindergarten, he told his mother, “I wanna give hot cocoa to people who are cold.”

Now in its sixth year, the event sold hot cocoa for $2 and cookies and brownies were $1 each. They also sold raffle tickets for sports memorabilia and jerseys in addition to donations from local businesses.

The program started using the All Good Things location last year when they raised over $2,000, according to Evan 

“You could imagine what Evan’s doing now – what is this kid gonna be doing years from now,” Joselson said.

Elisa Greenberg was “incredibly” proud of her children for their “nice teamwork” and how “they’ve worked together on this.”

Her husband said that Evan really understood what he was doing last year when a child, who was in remission for cancer, showed up at the event.

“I think it really hit Evan,” Ken Greenberg said. “We had the raffle and she won one of the biggest prizes, and Evan was so excited.”

The family said the money could not have been raised without the help of the community.

“I am so appreciative of all of our friends and the kids’ classmates, and we got school faculty to show up,” Elisa Greenberg said. “It’s nice to have the support of so many because at the end of the day it’s for a good cause.” 

The money raised will go towards funding “the vital work of hospitals” including “treatment, patient/parent care, fellowships and research equipment in the study of pediatric cancer,” according to Joselson.

The hospitals it supports are:

- The Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian - Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center - The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York - The Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at NYU Lagone Medical Center - Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at the Westchester Medical Center.
