STONY POINT, N.Y. - A man arrested in Stony Point for possession of prescription pills and steroids earlier this week is an aide to U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and has since been placed on leave. The charges were later dismissed.

Cody Peluso, 32, of Carmel, was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance after he was found in possession of two pills of soboxone, one pill of alprazolam, and 200 anabolic steroids, according to Stony Point Lt. Keith Williams. Peluso no longer works for Schumer.

"We are shocked and saddened by this news," said Jason Kaplan, spokesman for Sen. Schumer, in an email. "Mr. Peluso will immediately be placed on leave pending a complete investigation of this incident."

The arrest occurred on Monday, May 23 around 1:30 p.m. and the stop was prompted by a license plate check that determined Peluso's vehicle registration was suspended. It was later revealed during the stop that Peluso's license was also suspended due to prior violations, Williams said.
