The new research, based on 2013 guidelines issued by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, show that people ages 40-75 with at least a 7.5 percent risk of having a stroke or heart attack over the next 10 years should receive statins, according to the report.
Statins are also recommended for those with cardiovascular disease, adults with high levels of “bad” cholesterol and diabetics between ages 40 and 75, reports Yahoo! Health.
