The website ranked the jobs based on a combination of three factors -- the number of job openings, salary and career opportunities.

Not surprisingly, each of the top 25 jobs are high-paying with the lowest ranking median base salary still hitting nearly $70,000 annually. Many of the positions also are in management.

Highlights of the list include:

  • #25 Software Architect: While this position is among the highest paid on the list at $130,000 on average, it ranked fairly low on career opportunity and job score, according to Glassdoor.com, which noted that total job openings in this field total only 653.
  • #7 Physician Assistant: Perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that the best jobs in an aging America include some in the healthcare industry. Physician Assistants make an average of $97,000 a year, according to Glassdoor.com, which reported that the job performs well in terms of career opportunity and job score. This year, there are more than 3,364 physician assistant jobs available.
  • #2 Tax Manager: What's that saying about death and taxes? Glassdoor was certain that tax managers have it made. The job has an average salary of about $108,000 a year and scores well in career opportunity and overall job score, If that weren't enough, there are more than 1,500 tax manager jobs currently available, according to Glassdoor.
