He will be bringing his unique brand of humor to Paramount Hudson Valley on April 9 at 7 p.m. in a show with fellow comic Gilbert Gottfried.

Lewis, who grew up in Englewood, has starred in movies like "Robin Hood: Men In Tights" and TV shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm." But he still enjoys going out and performing.

"I'm only safe around my rescue dogs and audiences," Lewis said. "I love audiences. I feel like I'm a bullfighter when I'm on stage. I'm very fortunate that I've never stopped performing. It's taken me a long time to feel good about myself."

Lewis said he is excited about performing in Peekskill, and it brings up some interesting memories.

"I had a lot of great romances there before I got married," Lewis said. "Some of the most beautiful women live in Peekskill. The only problem is when I'm having sex in that area, I start thinking of Pete Seeger. It's not right to be thinking about cleaning the Hudson River in bed."

He finally found the one, marrying Joyce Lapinsky at the age of 57.

"I was so old when I got married- the rabbi had to help me crush the glass because of my arthritis," Lewis quipped.

Performing with Gottfried also has its own challenges.

"He is the cheapest human being that ever lived," Lewis said. "Ever since he was in his 20s, if you go out to dinner with him, he'll put his hand in his pocket and make that stupid face of his. He'll come into my dressing room and he'll steal my cheese. He's a horrible human being, but it's hard to find anyone funnier."

Lewis is serious when it comes to sobriety, having been sober since 1994.

"Helping people get sober is the most important thing in my life," Lewis said. "People used to come over and tell me that I was dying. It's tough, but manageable if you reach out to the right people. You can't do it alone. My wife has never seen me drink. It's trippy that she's never seen me get thrown out of a restaurant."
