Interbrand cited IBM's record earnings per share, margins and cash flow through 2012 and early 2013 as one of the defining factors for the high ranking. The company's 6,478 new patents in 2012 was also the most by any American company for the 20th consecutive year, according to interbrand.com.
Apple, Google and Coke-a-Cola were the three corporations that beat out IBM in the rankings.
