2 Hikers Rescued By Helicopter From Marsh At Park In Northern Westchester

Two young hikers had to be rescued by first responders after they became stuck in a marsh at a park in Northern Westchester, sending one to a hospital.

The incident happened on Friday, May 26 around 1:20 p.m., when Westchester County Police and first responders were sent to Croton Point Park in Croton-On-Hudson on a report of two hikers who became stuck in a muddy marsh on the south end of the park.

According to the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, firefighters arrived at the park first and began searching for the missing hikers.

However, because tall reeds obscured the pair, the Westchester County Police Aviation Unit had to deploy a helicopter to locate them. The duo was eventually spotted after they helped guide authorities to their location over a 911 call.

Once the two hikers, a 23-year-old and a 17-year-old, were finally seen by police, they were pulled out one at a time and brought to a nearby parking lot to be evaluated. There, they were confirmed to be uninjured, police said.

One of the hikers was later brought to a local hospital for more evaluation as a precaution.
