Two Bergen County teenagers were arrested after engaging in a pursuit with Secaucus police that ended with one of them being struck by a vehicle following a crash on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 7, authorities said. At 10:37 a.m., Secaucus police responded to a report that two men in ski masks were committing thefts from residences in the north end of the town, Police Chief Dennis Miller said. A driver was dragged from her SUV by two carjackers -- one 17, the other 13 -- who were both nabbed by Paterson police after the stolen vehicle caused a chain-reaction crash in Clifton, authorities said. UPDATE: Two officers and a civilian were injured in a crash involving two Clifton police vehicles, one of which overturned, Monday night, responders said. Police were headed to a report of a carjacked vehicle from which shots had been fired in Paterson a short time earlier when the crash occurred at the intersection of Main and Clifton avenues around 9:30 p.m., Detective Lt. A Clifton man was charged with attempted murder in what prosecutors said was a bias attack on a Mexican grocery store clerk. Shairo Gil, 24, missed when he tried to stab the clerk at Barrales Grocery on Main Street in the chest, they said. Gil “was purposely targeting any individual of Mexican descent” and went after ther clerk “because he believed her to be of Mexican descent,” Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Witnesses Help Clifton Police Nab Fleeing Business Burglar Hailing Cab
Clifton police responding to a commercial burglary call found their suspect trying to hail a cab. Witnesses told responding officers that the burglar fled toward Paterson after breaking into the Main Street business around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said. The front glass door was smashed and cash and cigarettes stolen, he added. Officers established a perimeter and began a yard-by-yard search, assisted by a Passaic County sheriff’s K-9 unit.
