The move addresses the issues Robert Hilzer of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs raised in his Oct. 8 letter. He noted that parts of the borough’s ordinances were superseded by either state and international codes -- so should be eliminated, NorthJersey.com said.
As noted by NorthJersey.com, the eliminated rules include:
- three-foot access requirements around solar panels, mechanical units and skylights -- these are addressed in state code
- signage requirement for solar installation -- because not required by state code
- requirement of external system disconnect switch -- covered in state codes
- identifying emblems for residential structures with truss construction -- because not required under state code
Bivona emphasized that the changes don't affect the borough requirements that limit solar-panel locations to the front or rear roof, NorthJersey.com said.
