Wyckoff Police Nab Fugitives Fleeing CVS

WYCKOFF, N.J. -- A couple accused of stealing a laser pointer from a local CVS might have had a quick getaway -- if only they hadn'd locked their keys in their car, Wyckoff police said.

Responding Officer Kyle Ferreira found Robyn R. Verga, 27, of Garfield, using a coat hanger to try and pop the lock on the car door outside the Franklin Avenue pharmacy, Police Chief Benjamin C. Fox said.

Verga and her companion, Jordan R. Stevens, also 27, of Prospect Park, then gave backup Officers William Plisch and James Bakelaar "different stories about their purpose for being there," Fox said.

Verga "identified herself by a name differently than [Stevens] provided for her," he added.

She was carrying a glass pipe with cocaine residue, a used syringe and various heroin works, the chief said.

Stevens was carrying the pointer, he said.

Both Verga and Stevens also had active warrants, Fox said.

Verga was charged with hindering and possession of drugs and paraphernalia, while Stevens was charged with shoplifting.

Both were turned over to the Bergen County Sheriff's Office on the warrants.
