Melvin 'Mel' Laurence Opper, 79, Formerly Of Franklin Lakes

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. —Melvin 'Mel' Laurence Opper, 79, formerly of Franklin Lakes, died Oct. 8.

He was born Aug. 28, 1937, in Paterson, to Addison and Elizabeth Opper.

He was a graduate of the University of Miami. After many successful years in the real estate businesses, he created, DELAM Construction and The Opper Group. He retired to Boca Raton, Fla.

His dedication to community is evident through his leadership in a number of organizations. He served as president of Temple Beth Rishon, Daughters of Miriam and as a board member of Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey and Preakness Hills Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Lehrman Opper; sons, David Opper and his wife Michele and Alex Opper and his wife Mindy; daughter, Elizabeth Opper Greenhagen and her husband Adam; sister, Barbara Opper Rosinsky and her husband Martin; and nine grandchildren.

The family has requested donations of remembrance be made to Temple Beth Rishon or Birthright Israel Foundation.
