Joseph F. Rubacky, 90, Wyckoff Lawyer, Education Activist

WYCKOFF, N.J. -- Joseph Francis Rubacky Jr., a Wyckoff lawyer and former Ramapo-Indian Hills school board member, died Dec. 16. He was 90.

A decorated veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps in World War II, Rubacky later graduated from Georgetown University and Georgetown Law School. He was a member of the New York and New Jersey bars and was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.

A member of the Ramapo-Indian Hills School District board of education for more than a decade, he gained national attention as an advocate for the educational rights of disabled children.

Rubacky also was a founding member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic parish in Franklin Lakes. He later was a member of St. Elizabeth’s parish in Wyckoff, and Church of the Nativity in Midland Park. 

He was predeceased by his wife Grace Mary in 1997. 

He is survived by his children Joseph and Jill, Paul and Gwen, Peter and Leslie, Mary and Eugene, Ellen and Gary, Elizabeth and Thomas, Kathleen and John, and Timothy. 

He's also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher, Allison and Keith, Melissa, Sarah, Emma, Heather, Michael, Victoria, Elizabeth, Katie, Megan, Kelsey, Thomas, Ryan and Patricia and his great-granddaughter Natalie. 

A visitation is planned from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Most Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 787 Franklin Lakes Road, Franklin Lakes.
