John M. Verdi, 92, Of Franklin Lakes

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. -- John M. Verdi, 92, of Franklin Lakes, passed away Friday, Jan.1.

Born in Jersey City, he lived in Wyckoff before moving to Franklin Lakes 49 years ago. 

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II in the India-Burma theater.

A graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., he received his master’s degree in engineering from Columbia and his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. 

Before his retirement in 1982, he was a chemical engineer with Combustion Engineering in Bloomfield and a former project manager with Georgia Pacific. 

A member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Midland Park, he also was an avid tennis player at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes and played bridge with Activities Unlimited in Wyckoff. 

He was the husband of 68 years of Jean (nee Martin) Verdi of Franklin Lakes; father of Janet Verdi-Keane and her husband William of Wyckoff, Alison Verdi and her husband Samuel Jones of Silver Spring, Maryland and Roger Verdi of Belleville; and grandfather of Bryan and Alex Keane. 

The family will receive family and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 6, at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes.
