The borough added fitness equipment at three spots on the walking trail along Municipal Field.
The gear includes a push-up exerciser, a stationary bike, stretching and massage machines. It was added as part of the Mayors Wellness Campaign.
"We're a healthy town but it's really just one small part of an overall plan to increase awareness and ability for more active lifestyles and more healhty lifestyles," Mayor Frank Bivona told Daily Voice.
The equipment cost $28,000 but was donated by Meyko, LLC in Fairfield.
The process started in the spring but recently finished up to create an active area in the half-mile walking path, Bivona said.
The Mayors Wellness Campaign started in 2014 and aims for a healthier Franklin Lakes. The program includes events such as nutrition classes, races and various challenges.
"Of course we can't force people to do things," Bivona said, "but if we make things available to them like this, and it's easy to access, the theory is that they will come and they will use it."
