Pat Mack, senior library assistant, described herself as an avid recycler. She used her hobby to find new uses for items found around the library.
Mack made a necklaces out of tubes found in the printer at the library rather than throw them out. She made three and is on her way to a fourth, she said.
"Maybe if I get a lot I'll try to think of something else to do like tote bag handles," Mack told Daily Voice.
A friend at the Fair Lawn Library also said she would send Mack their printer tubes.
Mack extended her ingenuity beyond the printer when she took home an empty, round tape dispenser and said she plans to find some use for it.
Her co-workers shared her creations on the library's Facebook page and Mack said it's been a hit. They also sent a picture to the county library headquarters in Hackensack to spread the word.
Mack, who has worked in Franklin Lakes for eight years, attended Rhode Island School of Design and said it helped her think creatively.
She said she hopes her work inspires other people.
"Maybe other people will start doing creative things," she said. "It's a lot of fun to do it. Maybe we should have a contest who can do the wackiest. The sky's the limit."
