The Peapack and Gladstone Police Department was called to the southbound side of the highway around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 7 to assist officers in Chester as they chased the stolen vehicle.

An Audi was following the BMW, which headed southbound and at times “drove into oncoming traffic on Rt. 206,” police said.

The chase was ended for safety reasons — meanwhile, the Audi veered off the roadway south of Potterville Road, and a suspect ran into the woods.

After a several-hour search involving K9 tracking dogs and a New Jersey State Police helicopter, the suspect, described as a "dark-skinned male wearing a dark hoodie,” no arrests were made, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Peapack and Gladstone Police Department at 908-234-0626.

“As always, please keep your vehicle(s) and residence doors locked to deter burglaries and thefts,” said police.
