A 58-year-old woman was caught after she neglected to scan about $165 worth of items at the Walmart self-checkout around 1:10 p.m. on March 28, Mansfield Township police said.

While the woman was in the loss prevention office, a 78-year-old man who was with her started pounding on the door. When the officer opened it, the man yelled, cursed and threatened the officer with closed fists, police said.

Once the man was calmed down, the woman was taken to headquarters for processing.

However, the man quickly returned to the store and tried to force his way into the loss prevention office while harassing the officer a second time, authorities said.

The officer was able to subdue the man and remove him from the store.

The woman was charged with shoplifting while the man was charged with harassment, loitering and disturbing the peace, police said.

The pair -- whose names were not released -- were banned from the store, police said.
