‘Live Like Linda’ Shares Late Hunterdon Mom’s Legacy Battling Cancer, Supports Current Patients

Rosalinda “Linda” Virruso Giles will forever be remembered for her countless accomplishments, but more importantly, her compassionate nature. In fact, following her death from breast cancer last May, Linda has become the namesake of a program launched to lessen the burden for individuals and families navigating their own cancer journeys: Live Like Linda.

“Linda was a remarkable woman who always thought of others first, positively impacting many lives with her kind words and thoughtful actions,” reads a GoFundMe created by Amy Giles.

A Somerville native, Linda attended Bloomsburg College in Pennsylvania and taught at Eisenhower School in Bridgewater for seven years before settling in Hunterdon County, where lived at the time of her death at age 40, her obituary says.

Linda had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and entered remission the following year after undergoing surgical and systemic treatment — but unfortunately, the cancer returned in May 2021.

“This time it was metastatic,” reads the campaign. “Linda fought valiantly, never giving up, and never losing her selfless and caring ways.”

The dedicated Hunterdon County mom “fought like hell” during her cancer battle — but still maintained her selfless and compassionate nature through every single step of the way. Her obituary says she volunteered for Dance for the Cure, a charity that focuses on raising breast cancer relief funds for individuals in Somerset, Hunterdon and Middlesex counties.

“Rosalinda endlessly devoted herself to her family, especially her children, and cherished every moment spent together,” reads her obituary. “She did not let her diagnosis define her and raised awareness for women who are living the same battle.”

Now, the Live Like Linda program, launched this year, is spreading Linda’s legacy of hope, perseverance, and resilience far and wide by collecting donations and providing financial relief in several ways.

So far, support plans include paying off copays at the Hunterdon Care Center, providing gift cards and meals to local families, donating baskets in Linda’s memory to Dance for the Cure in October, and brightening children’s days whose parents have been diagnosed. Other suggestions are also being considered.

The campaign had raised around $6,000 since its creation on Sunday, April 30.

“Linda was incredibly touched by the support she and her family received throughout her cancer journey, so we have made it our mission is help others in that position,” the fundraiser reads. “Your donation will enable Linda's kind and thoughtful spirit to live on as we support and enhance the lives of families touched by cancer.”
