Edward Woodell , aka 'Chip,' was found unresponsive following a serious crash on his way home from work on Thursday, April 27, requiring him to be extricated and flown to Morristown Medical Center’s Trauma Unit by the Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad, according to a GoFundMe launched for his support.

“There it was determined that he had sustained a traumatic brain injury and had to begin fighting for his life,” reads the campaign.

Woodell has undergone several surgeries since the accident but has suffered a skull fracture, as well as “irreversible” damage to his left eye, the fundraiser says.

More than $44,500 had been raised as of Thursday, May 18 to support the devoted dad’s children, Jameson, 23, Jeanna, 21, and Grayson, 12, as well as his partner, Kari, as they navigate his road to recovery.

“Chip is a family man,” reads the campaign. “He is the the most admirable son, caring brother, and loving father. Family has always been the driving factor in Chip’s life…As an amazing father to his three children and partner to Kari, he is the most supportive, endearing, and compassionate role model anyone could ask for.”

An update posted to the campaign on Monday, May 15 stated the Woodell was breathing through a trach collar, “occasionally squeezing his loved one’s hands” and would soon be ready to leave the ICU.

“While we don’t know what his recovery will look like or when he will wake up, the progress he has made is astonishing,” the update says. “My dad added something irreplaceable to my family, and we are longing for him to return to us.”
