Police said the two entered the restroom at the McDonald's on Westfield Avenue West, set off the grenade, then fled. The smoke alarm went off and the restaurant was evacuated.
Police Chief Daniel J. McCaffery stated that “this incident created a dangerous condition for those in the restaurant, and those responding to the location.”
Callum Bujdos, 19, of Springfield and a 16-year-old from Roselle Park were charged with making terroristic threats.
Bujdos was released pending an appearance in Superior Court, and the juvenile was released and will be scheduled to appear in family court.
