The footage was released by BigTrains TV, which has a camera up at 51 New Bridge Road. The clip shows the train coming full speed through the intersection of New Bridge Road and Woodbine Street at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, June 26.
According to Bergenfield police, the chain-reaction crash began when the Chevrolet utility truck traveling south on Woodbine Street hit a parked car near 120 Woodbine. That impact caused a mechanical malfunction, jamming the truck’s accelerator, police said.
The truck then struck a utility pole, continued through the intersection, and crashed into three more vehicles along with the traffic light pole, police said.
Responding officers arrived to find five vehicles involved, including one that had overturned. The traffic light pole had been knocked off its base and landed on top of a vehicle, police said.
Amazingly, all five adults involved escaped with only minor, non-life-threatening injuries. All were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for evaluation.
The intersection was closed for several hours as fire crews, EMS, and utility workers responded. The road was reopened by 11:30 p.m., officials said.
