Woods will be honored for his 49 years in education and sports before dozens of athletes and supporters.

"He has helped promote good sportsmanship, work ethic, and character for not only our wrestlers but all our athletes here in Emerson," EHS teacher Konstantinos Paleoudis told Daily Voice.

The idea was proposed by people who manage the Eric Ayala Scholarship Fund — one that Woods has championed in the past.

“Our Board of Education and superintendent completely supported the idea," Paleoudis said.

Woods is far from retirement, as he's currently has the most wins out of any coach at the school. He is just a few dozen shy of the 700 mark on his career.

"The Emerson community embraces him the same way his family does," Paleoudis said. "Like a grandfather."
