Midland Park Council Rehires Officer After DWI ATV Accident

MIDLAND PARK, N.J. — The Midland Park Mayor and Council voted Thursday to reinstate an officer who was terminated following an ATV accident while under the influence, northjersey.com reports. 

Following litigation, Midland Park Police Officer Josep Gaeta will return to the department at top salary guide, full pension, and $135,000 in settlement and fees.

Rehired Officer Joseph Gaeta will earn $119,166 a year (the top tier of the salary guide), with full pension benefits, according to the report.

Hired in 2006, Gaeta was seriously injured in an accident in 2011, when he lost control of an ATV on a side street off Godwin Avenue in Wyckoff.

At the time of the accident, the off-duty officer's blood alcohol level was .135. Earlier that day, Gaeta was the test subject in field sobriety training at the Bergen County Police Academy in Mahwah, Cliffview Pilot previously reported.
