Jennifer Glass, director of the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce, picked up a petition Jan. 7, as did Jacob Herenstein.
Herenstein is a 22-year old student at Yeshiva University. Glass has been urged by Chamber of Commerce members to run, and had expressed an interest earlier in the month.
Former mayor and current Councilman Mohammed Hameeduddin, whose seat is up this year, picked up petitions Jan. 15, along with Ezra Ghazal.
Hameeduddin is known as the first person of Muslim faith to serve as a mayor in New Jersey, chosen by his fellow council members in both 2010 and 2012 to be mayor. Ghazal is new to Teaneck politics.
Incumbents Henry Pruitt and Mark Schwartz had previously taken out petitions, as have challengers Michael Pagan, Chondra Young and Stephen Gruber.
Candidates have until March 7 to file petitions with at least 261 valid signatures nominating them to run, meaning there could still be more candidates coming forward.
It’s also possible that people with petitions won’t actually become candidates.
