Charles “Chupey” Benincasa, 29, was being held on $15,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with a variety of offenses, including trying to sell a defaced handgun.
The concerned resident called police on Friday. The department’s Anti-Crime Unit, headed by Detective Sgt. Kenneth Egbert then arranged to meet the would-be seller in the 7Eleven parking lot at 1247 Teaneck Road that night.
Benincasa pulled up around 10:30 and was taken into custody.
Inside the driver’s door pocket, Wilson said, police found a 12-inch knife.
They also turned up the two handguns, which had been brought to New Jersey from North Carolina, a felony.
Benincasa, who originally is from Charlotte, studied at Brookdale Community College and is unemployed, had a hearing scheduled this afternoon in Teaneck Municipal Court.
