Former NYPD Commissioner Kerik's Son Among Squad That Took Out Jersey City Shooters

The son of former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik was among a group of officers who rushed a Jersey City kosher grocery in an armored vehicle on Tuesday following a prolonged gun battle with a couple who killed a fellow officer and three civilians.

Newark Police Detective Joseph Kerik, an emergency services veteran, was treated for bruises at Jersey City Medical Center after the two assailants were gunned down in a hail of bullets.

The 34-year-old Paramus High School graduate has been working with a federal task force that was among the units that converged on the Greenville section Tuesday during the hours-long standoff.

David Anderson and Francine Graham had slain Jersey City Police Officer Joseph Seals in a nearby cemetery and wounded another officer before killing three civilians at the JC Kosher Supermarket.

An intense exchange followed between police and Anderson and Graham, who were holed up in the store.

An officer who'd taken cover across the street and three officers on the third floor of the Sacred Heart School fired key shots, law enforcement sources said.

Soon after, a Bearcat driven by Jersey City Police Officer Jimmy Frattini rammed the building and flash bombs were ignited.

Kerik and Jersey City Detectives Joziph Soliman and John Antman fired their weapons, as well, then found the dead shooters and civilians after they emerged from the vehicle.

Bernard Kerik was at the medical center early Tuesday evening with his son.

He said they were praying for “Jersey City Police and their fallen officer,” Seals, a 17-year department veteran and father of five who lived in North Arlington.
