Legendary Record Producer Tommy LiPuma Of Pound Ridge Dies At 80

Tommy LiPuma, a jazz and pop producer of Pound Ridge died on Monday in Manhattan. He was 80.

Born on July 5, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, he left his job as a barber to work in the record business in Los Angeles. 

He worked his way up from a promotional representative at Liberty Records and came to collaborate with many musicians, including Barbra Streisand, Miles Davis, Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Paul McCartney, and others.

LiPuma’s productions won five Grammys and were nominated for 28 more, and saw sales of 75 million.

His two most recent Grammys came for his work with McCartney “Kisses On the Bottom.”

LiPuma’s last production was a forthcoming album by Krall entitled, "Turn Up The Quiet," which is scheduled for release in May.

He is survived by his wife, Gill, daughters Jen Monti and Danielle Wiener, and four grandchildren: Matty, Julia, Chloe and Ava.
