Eleanor Estelle Kovall, 90, Of Teaneck

TEANECK, N.J. – Eleanor Estelle Kovall (neé Kragen), 90, died Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains after a brief illness.

Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., she was a graduate of Hunter College and worked for many years as a physical education and health education teacher at Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx. She retired in 1988.

She was married for more than 50 years to the late Dr. Lawrence Kovall and lived for 35 years in Teaneck, where she was a founding member of Temple Beth Ahm. More recently, she lived in Clearbrook in Monroe Township and was active in many of the activities offered there, including water aerobics classes, which she founded and sometimes led.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Dale Spindel); daughter Wynne; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Mollie and Louis Kragen, and a grandson.

Funeral arrangements are under the supervision of Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park St., Hackensack.
