Fighting the battle against opioid addiction has been a top priority for Donna Andelora of Wayne since 2012, when her son Joey died of a heroin overdose at 22 years old.

She founded Joey's Angels in his memory on Facebook -- and hasn't stopped fighting for him since.

Andelora on Tuesday will attend Trump's State of the Union address as the guest of Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat representing the 11th District, the Daily Record reports.

Sherrill believes the growing opioid epidemic is among the most serious public health crises in New Jersey.

Andelora explained the extremely addictive nature of opiates, noting how all it takes is one try before a full-fledged addiction is sparked.

"As a former federal prosecutor, I know first-hand the toll that addiction can take on our communities," Sherrill's website says.

"That’s why we need to address this public health crisis in the most comprehensive way possible. Solutions won’t be easy, but there are some smart things we can do – like expanding access to drug treatment facilities, establishing a seven-day limit on initial opiate prescriptions, and lowering the cost of Narcan."
