Teaneck Mom Defines Success As Working Hard, Giving Back

TEANECK, N.J. -- Teaneck resident Bita Goldman, expecting her third child next month, admits there are days juggling between work and family when she wonders how she'll fit everything in.

As the General Counsel of Quantum Networks, LLC, a fast paced eCommerce company in New York City, life is busy. Not to mention she has one-year-old twins at home. But then she looks back to her childhood -- she is an Iranian Jewish refugee -- and to her parents who came to the U.S. with less than $200 in their pockets, and is reminded she has a responsibility to do everything possible in a day to make it a success, and to set a good example for her children.

"Success, to me, means using all the opportunities around us to move forward, to watch something grow, to give back to the community, to be kind, considerate and hard working," she said. "If my parents, who came to America facing such opposition were able to live that definition of success, then what is my excuse?"

Which is why, she said, her crazy schedule is worthwhile. And why she devotes a portion of her free time to serving on the board of the Urban Justice Center's domestic violence project where she used to litigate and advocate on behalf of victims of domestic violence.

Goldman was first introduced to the NYC-based Center in 2011 when she worked as a staff attorney representing victims of domestic violence in family offense, custody, visitation and support cases in Queens and Brooklyn. She eventually left that position to pursue a career as a matrimonial attorney in Nassau County, only to stay on as Board Chairwoman on a volunteer basis because she felt such passion for the domestic violence project and the work they do.

Even while pregnant, she said the commute isn't a factor. Growing up on Long Island meant taking the train to the City for most things anyway. She and her husband, residents of Teaneck since last September, are more than enjoying Bergen County. "We were looking for a warm community where we could raise a family. We even convinced my parents to sell their house after 25 years and move to Englewood," she said. "We couldn't have made a better choice. The community has been welcoming and we even have three sets of twins on our block."
