She said that shoveling snow, especially Snowstorm Stella's combination of sleet and snow, can be a workout on its own but there are other activities that individuals can do to stay active.

For gym-goers, Vorontsova recommends using your own body weight with workouts like pushups, squats or jumping jacks.

Even for the majority of Americans who don't go to the gym regularly, Vorontsova suggested making a game out of staying active, especially for families with small children.

"If you have small kids you can play who Jumps further," Vorontsova said. "Kids are always eager to show what they can do and engage with the parents together."

Through her personal training company JannaFit, Vorontsova has been a private personal trainer for twenty years. JannaFit is based in Paramus.
