“We were known as an industry for our artificial flowers back in the day,” said Lori Mangone, one of the organizers.
The borough hopes to stage at least one event a month -- hopefully a concert series, a night at the movies at the park, and skating at Hogan’s Field.
Officials also hope to dedicate a gazebo, arrange sporting events that harken back to 1916 and create a time capsule.
Mangone said historians are assembling artifacts. There will also be reenactments of the town’s first minutes, as performed by students in a period piece in late winter to early spring.
"We’re looking forward to having a really fun year with this," Mangone said. "Everyone in town has been enthusiastic, and the mayor has been fantastic."
Mangone, who is also active in the PTO, has had to juggle roles and tasks, while working around other groups who might be having their own events throughout the year. Their goal, she said, is to share facilities.
“Our football program is connected to Old Tappan, so it has been kind of a difficult task to manage date-wise," she said. "We have to be mindful of other towns that we have a connection with.”
As activities are finalized, organizers will update borough electronic and online message boards.
