Anthony Principi was born April 16, 1944 in the East Bronx and turns 72 on Saturday.
He grew up in Teaneck and attended St. Anastasia School. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Seton Hall in 1975 and went on to serve the United States Navy's Judge Advocate General Corps in San Diego.
He later worked in Washington as legislative counsel for the Department of the Navy.
He served in the Navy from 1967–1980.
Principi served as Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs, 1989-1992, when he was named Acting Secretary of Veterans Affairs by President George H. W. Bush.
